Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Adrian AshmannAdrian Ashman

Adrian Ashman has a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Applied Psychology (UNSW), a Master of Arts degree (QUT), and Master of Education and PhD from the University of Alberta , Canada .

 

Adrian practised psychology in Canada then in Newcastle (NSW) upon his return to Australia . He has worked at the Universities of Alberta, Regina , Newcastle , and Queensland . He has an international reputation for his work in applied psychology and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability.

 

Adrian has been involved in dispute resolution in a range of contexts for about 30 years and has completed training as a mediator according to the NSW Law Society requirements. Adrian is a senior member of the Queensland Guardianship and Administration Tribunal and is also a registered adjudicator under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004.

 

Adrian is a Professor of Education at the University of Queensland and is a former Head of School.

Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Christopher O'MearaChristopher O’Meara

Christopher O’Meara is a qualified barrister and mediator.  He was admitted to legal practice in Victoria in 1980 and in Queensland in 2000.  His legal practice includes family law and children’s matters.

 

Before joining the Queensland Bar in 2003, Chris had over twenty years experience in law and management.  He has worked as General Manager, Corporate Services & Company Secretary of Tarong Energy Corporation, a Queensland government owned electricity producer.  He was also, the General Counsel in charge of the Legal Services Unit at Australia Post where he worked for eleven years.  Before that, he was the Legal Manager and Corporate Secretary at ANL Limited (the Australian government shipping line).

 

Chris is also a qualified teacher and currently lectures part time in law at Queensland University of Technology. 

 

He has a Master of Laws and a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Laws and Arts, and Diplomas in Education and Company Secretarial Practice.  He has also completed a Professional Certificate in Arbitration.

Fran Conway
is a social worker in private practice with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Social Work.  She is accredited as a social worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and as a mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) in accordance with the Australian National Mediator Standards.

Fran is registered with the Attorney-General's Department as a child inclusive Family Dispute Resolution Provider and is authorised to issue 60I Certificates under that section of the Family Law Act 1975.  She is a Regulation 8 Welfare Officer with the Family Court of Australia and a Regulation 7 Family Consultant with the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia.

Fran has specialised in working with separated couples who wish to resolve parenting issues in dispute and establish a parenting plan in their children's best interests.
 

 

Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Randal Binnie 

Randal Binnie


Randal Binnie is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Family Law Specialist and a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975. He was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1992 and also the High Court of Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology and is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of the Law Council of Australia.

 

Randal has completed specialist mediation training through Bond University . He has been a Legal Aid Queensland approved chairperson/mediator since 1992 and regularly mediates Family Law Legal Aid conferences to assist parents in resolving differences about the parenting of their children. Randal also conducts mediations on a private basis in both property and children’s issues.

 

Randal was also a member of the Queensland Police Service for thirteen years prior to his admission as a lawyer.

Janet Barnes

 

Janet Barnes is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and completed a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) at QUT in 1983. She was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland 1983 and the High Court of Australia 1997. Janet has been a Queensland Law Society approved mediator since 2002.

 

Janet has been practicing law for twenty years both in Queensland and in England . Her background is in litigation and family law.  She currently serves on the Legal Aid Queensland panel of mediators, the ADRAS panel and the Commercial and Consumer Tribunal panel.  Janet views mediation as an important form of dispute resolution.

She has a Bachelor of Social Work conferred in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws conferred in 2003. Judy has undertaken basic and advanced mediation training and is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner under the Commonwealth Family Law Act. Judy has provided mediation services to Legal Aid Queensland the Family Court and the Federal Magistrates Court. Since 2002 Judy has tutored in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Queensland University of Technology. Judy is an associate solicitor at DA Family Lawyers and has extensive experience in both children's and property matters.

 


Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Kay Feeney

Kay Feeney

Kay Feeney was admitted as a solicitor in 1985. Prior to her studying law, she worked as a high school teacher in Queensland . She first practised at Robertson O'Gorman. She became a partner in the firm and practised in criminal and family Law. In 1992 she moved to Phillips Fox as a family law specialist.

 

Kay has been a member of the Social Security Appeals tribunal which has enhanced her knowledge and understanding of the many Centrelink issues that need to be dealt with in the resolution of many family law matters. She has also held contracts as a senior case officer within the Child Support Agency. This role gave her a depth of understanding of the complex child support legislation and its implementation. Her membership of the Migration Review Tribunal further developed her knowledge of administrative law. She has undertaken conciliation conferences for the Federal Magistrates Court at Relationships Australia.

 

Kay has worked in Family law at Cooper Grace Ward since 1996 and is an accredited specialist in family law. Her interest in and commitment to mediated outcomes has developed through years of such practise.

Penny Feil

 

Penny Feil is a solicitor and the principal of Accord Mediation and is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975. She has conducted over 2000 mediations since 1991 in commercial, family law and defacto property disputes, and in Family Maintenance Provisions.

 

Penny is an approved mediator with the Queensland Law Society, Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of Queensland,as well as Legal Aid Queensland and the Retail Shop Leases Registry.

 

She is a member of the Queensland Law Society, Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators, Family Law Practitioners Association, Law Council of Australia – Family Law Section, LEADR, and the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland.

 

Penny is a Conciliator with Relationships Australia in conciliations ordered by the Federal Magistrates Court. She is a part time member of the Guardianship and Administration Tribunal, the Children Services Tribunal and the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Penny has been engaged by the Child Support Agency as a Senior Case Officer since 1997.

 

Penny has spoken on issues relating to mediation at the 2005 and 2007 Family Law Residentials. She is a mediation coach with the Australian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies and the Queensland Law Society.

Michael Halliday

Michael Halliday, a Nationally Accredited Mediator, is a retired Magistrate and Coroner.  Michael is a Barrister in Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

Michael has extensive experience in all jurisdictions.  At the Bar he developed a specialist practice in Administrative Law and held positions including:

  • Lecturer in Administrative Law and Commercial/Business Law at QUT;
  • Chairperson of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal;
  • Senior Member of the Veterans Review Board and Presiding Member of the Misconduct Tribunal;
  • Part time lecturer in medical law with the School of Nursing at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and QUT.

Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Sue Lewis

Sue Lewis

 

Sue Lewis is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and graduated from the University of Queensland in 1979 with a Bachelor of Social Work. She is a member of the Australia Association of Social Workers; the Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law; and the Queensland Family Law Practitioners Association. Sue has also undertaken post graduate training in Family Therapy and Mediation.

 

Sue specialised in the Child Protection and Family Welfare fields (including domestic violence, substance dependency, mental illness, indigenous and multicultural issues and so forth).

 

Sue has experience in preparing reports for the Children’s, Family, Federal Magistrates, and Supreme Courts as well as the Children’s Commission and Children’s Services Tribunal, in matters of Child Protection and Family Issues. She has also prepared reports for:

·         the Magistrates, District / Supreme Courts in relation to criminal matters;

·         the Department of Immigration in determining matters relating to residency in Australia ; and

·         the Department of Families to assist in Court processes and/or case planning.

Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Sue Waterman

Sue Waterman

 

Sue Waterman is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of NSW in 1988. She is am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and currently works in private practice as a family counsellor, mediator and report writer. Sue has undertaken further training in family therapy has extensive experience in dealing with families in conflict situations.

Prior to entering private practice, she was employed for 10 years in Child and Youth Mental Health and has experience in the areas of adult psychiatric health and child sexual abuse. She was previously a member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal and the Children’s Services Review Tribunal.

Sue has undertaken advanced training in Mediation and has been conducting mediations since 1995.


Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Peter Sheehy

Peter Sheehy

 

Peter Sheehy is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1975.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland .  Since 1995, he has been a Queensland Law Society Approved Mediator and a member of the Supreme Court of Queensland Mediator List.  He is also a panel mediator for the Retail Shop Lease Tribunal.

 

Peter practiced initially in Building and Construction litigation and then for 18 months worked in the UK for Bechtel Inc, an international construction company.  Since 1980 he has, conducted a specialist Family Law practice in the Brisbane CBD.  He is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Family Law Specialist.

Peter’s experience in mediation involves both court-appointed and private Family Law and De Facto Law related matters, as well as employment and sex discrimination matters, and corporate management disputes.

Peter is an adjunct lecturer in Family Law practice with the College of Law Queensland .

Shanna Quinn

 

Shanna Quinn is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and was initially trained as a mediator in 1991 and has undertaken significant subsequent training in both matrimonial and commercial mediation. She has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in social work and has been working as a practitioner for over 25 years. Shanna also has a Bachelor of Law (LLB) Degree.

Shanna established a private practice in 1988 in Brisbane and a mediation consultancy practice in Hong Kong in 1996, which provides training, accreditation, and conducts cross-jurisdictional mediations in both children’s matters and substantial property disputes.

Shanna has worked in and for the private sector, all three tiers of government and the police service. She maintains her longstanding interest in working with children and separating families and continues to provide expert witness opinion to the Family Court of Australia. Her overseas experience provides her with regular opportunities to work with widely diverse cultures, significant quantum and disputes of a unique nature.


Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Peter Jordan

Peter Jordan

 

Peter Jordan is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and is a psychologist and mediator in private practice. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master's degree in psychology specializing in educational and developmental psychology, as well as qualifications in special education and school counselling. He is a former teacher and school counsellor and has special expertise in all areas of developmental psychology.

He commenced his mediation practice in educational settings where he has over twenty years experience. He has since expanded his mediation skills to include family and work disputes. He has worked across health, education and welfare settings, is a member of the WorkCover Queensland Psychologists’ Panel and a supervisor for the Queensland Ambulance Service Peer Support Program.

As a consultant to Britton Psychological Services in Brisbane , Peter provides reports to the Federal Magistrates Court , the Family Court and the Children's Court. His private practice specializes in the provision of clinical counseling, developmental and mediation services to families and to the legal sector.Peter regularly provides expert witness testimony in all Federal and State Courts.

Michelle graduated LL.B from QUT in 1986. Since 1987 she has been practicing in private practice as a principal solicitor at Dooley Solicitors, Southport.

Michelle has extensive experience as a mediator. She has been a chairperson of Legal Aid Queensland Family Law Conferences since 1994, a panel mediator with the Consumer and Commercial Tribunal (Building Disputes) since 1997 and with the Retail Shop Leases Tribunal (Commercial Tenancy Disputes) since 1998.

Michelle is also an Independent Children’s Lawyer in the Family Court and in the Federal Magistrates Court.

Jenny Boulton

Jennifer is an accredited mediator with the Queensland Law Society. She has conducted conciliation conferences for the Federal Magistrates Court at Relationships Australia.

Chris Turnbull

An Accredited Family Law Specialist, he was admitted to practise in 2000 and has practised exclusively in Family Law since 2003.

Chris is a Law Society approved Mediator. He has training in dispute resolution from Bond University's School of Law and from the Dispute Resolution Centre with the Queensland Department of Justice.

Chris is also a member of the family dispute resolution conference chairperson panel for Legal Aid Queensland, and occasionally writes for the Queensland Law Society Magazine "Proctor" on family law issues.

 


Mediator (Brisbane Mediations) Tom Stodulka

James White

James White is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and has been a lawyer for 26 years. He has primarily practised in the Family Law area; however he also practises in the areas of Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Conveyancing, Wills and Estate Administration.

He is an accredited mediator with the Qld Law Society, all Queensland Courts and the Family Court of Australia. He is also a panel mediator for the Retail Shop Lease Tribunal, Dispute Resolution Centre (Qld Justice Department), Legal Aid Queensland and the Residential Tenancies Authority.

James has been mediating since 1991. He has mediated over 1000 disputes throughout Queensland ranging from family law matters, workplace disputes, commercial and financial disputes, multi-party disputes for the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Sugar Board and disputes in remote indigenous communities in the North Queensland including native title issues.

He has also facilitated community consultative committees in respect to waste management, the real estate industry, tropical health and Queensland Health. He was also a mediator in the first program involving victim-offender mediations in Queensland. Of special interest he was a mediator for the Anglican Church in Brisbane in respect to sexual abuse claims against clergy.

Tom Stodulka

Tom Stodulka is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975. Tom is a specialist mediator, conciliator, conflict coach and victim-offender conference convenor. He has mediated over 900 disputes throughout Australia ranging from workplace, family law, and multi-million dollar commercial transactions, conciliations for the Queensland Federal Magistrates Court, the Conflict Resolution Service (ACT), the Queensland Dispute Resolution Branch and Resolve (NT), to franchise disputes for the National Office of Mediation Adviser, and multi-party disputes involving remote indigenous communities.

Tom has attained a Bachelor of Laws, a Graduate Diploma in Strategic Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Mediation.

Tom is accredited as a specialist and senior mediator and mentor with LEADR, IAMA, the Queensland Law Society, the Defence Department and all Queensland Courts and the Federal Magistrates Court. In 2006 he was accredited to mediate disputes under the Federal Government’s Workplace Relations legislation.

In addition to coaching and training in mediation for LEADR, Bond University, the Department of Defence, ACPACS and the University of Queensland, he sits on the Queensland Law Society ADR Committee and was a former Director of LEADR and President of the NT Mediation Association. He is the founder of the Queensland ADR Forum.

Gary Shepherd

Gary Shepherd LLM, MSW, MAIPC, Notary Public, is a solicitor, and social worker, holds masters degrees in both law and social work and is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975. He is a member of the Queensland Law Society and the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors. Gary practiced as a Solicitor for over 20 years, predominantly in the area of family law. He has practiced for the last 12 years as a mediator (again, predominantly in the area of family law), and for the last 2 years as a report writer, preparing family reports and social assessments in the family and children’s court jurisdictions. In the mid-1990’s Gary was a lecturer at the Australian Catholic University in the area of Industrial Relations Law.

Mieke Brandon

Mieke Brandon (BA MSc (App), is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975 and is an advanced practitioner with the Association of Conflict Resolution  (ACR in the USA). Mieke is a national accredited mediator with the Australian Mediation Association (AMA), an accredited member of LEADR and a recognised accredited mediator with Mediatetoday.

Mieke has specialised in assisting to resolve family and workplace disputes, published many articles, and presented at conferences in Australia and overseas. She is also extensively involved in a range of courses provided by different universities as lecturer, tutor, trainer, coach, assessor, and supervises and mentors others. Mieke was employed as a family dispute resolution practitioner with Relationships Australia from 1993-2007 and is a community mediator with the Dispute Resolution Branch, Queensland Attorney-General’s Department since 1989.

Patrick Cavanagh

Anne Purcell

Anne works in educational psychology and specialises in mediations involving families, property and particularly parenting plans focusing on children’s developmental and emotional needs. She has an interest in high-conflict and complex matters. She is Managing Partner of the Family Dispute Services Division at the Park Road Group, in Brisbane.

Additionally, Anne conducts mediations/conferences for Legal Aid Queensland and Relationships Australia where she works on both Federal Magistrate Court and voluntary matters. As a registered teacher and academic, she coaches and trains in mediation for Bond University and UQ, and in educational psychology for ACU.

Anne conducts professional development in mediation skills and the psychology of conflict. Her clients include The Queensland Bar, The Dispute Resolution Centre/Faculty of Law, Bond University and the Queensland Law Society.

Megan Morris

Megan Morris is a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department able to issue S601 Certificates under that section of The Family Law Act 1975.

A registered psychologist and mediator, initially Megan worked in senior management in the hospitality industry and taught communications and lifeskills for TAFE Queensland before living overseas for a period of 10 years. During this time she provided psychological support to Australian, British and New Zealand High Commissions and the American Peace Corps in both Thailand and Vanuatu as well as providing a consultancy for individuals and families on a private basis. Megan provided psychological support for personal and workplace issues.

In addition during her time overseas Megan took an active interest in childrens' education and activities as both a board member of the international school in Vanuatu and chairperson of the voluntary committee at the New International School in Thailand as well as a member of a diverse group of international and local organisations supporting local women and childrens' health and well-being.
